Do you think you have a positive mindset? Do you know what a positive mindset is? A lot of people walk around with the idea that they are positive and look on the bright side of life. Yet, these same people are quick to judge, impatient with their routines and others as well as heavily opinionated. But, did you know that you can actually practice having a positive mindset? In the article, I will talk about 7 practical tips to achieve a positive mindset!
How do you start your day? Waking up at the last minute, quickly showering dressing, brushing your teeth and hair, hopefully grabbing everything you need as you rush out the door. But oh wait, your gas tank is on E and if you stop to get gas you just might be late to work. Again. Sound familiar? OK, maybe a little exaggerated but a lot of people experience this. Don’t worry! It’s not too late to change this endless downward spiral into something positive. Did you know that by telling yourself positive statements over and over, you will begin to believe in them and actually create positive change. Take this for example, “I am going to get up from bed the first time my alarm goes off so I have plenty of time in the morning. I will take the time I need to get ready and out the door to work on time”. Now go ahead and start practicing these 7 tips on how to become more mindful!
You could easily start your day off in a negative way by what I just described above. However, if you practice telling yourself positive things, that could all change. Take this for example, “I am going to get up from bed the first time my alarm goes off so I have plenty of time in the morning. I will take the time I need to get ready and out the door to work on time”. Now go ahead and start practicing these 7 tips on how to become more mindful!
2. Positivity- Focus on the good!
It is so easy to get wrapped up in negative thinking. It surrounds us on a daily basis whether it’s reading the news or simply who we decide to hang around. The first steps in beginning to focus on the good, it to try and flush out all of the negative! It takes a lot of practice and mental power to do this. When something negative crosses your mind, don’t let it stay there long. I find that replacing the negative thought with something I can find good about the situation helps. Another step is to examine who you are hanging out with and what you are choosing to watch or read. If you find yourself hanging around the gossiper or Debbie downer, its time to ask yourself if its worth it.
3. Laugh- Find that humor!
Have you tried finding humor in your mistakes or mishappening? I know it helps me take things a lot lighter and it helps me correct my attitude and problems quicker. If my day is going terrible I stop and ask myself how can I change it. How can I turn my day around? Finding something to laugh about, or even better, someone to laugh with always helps my mind stay positive. Plus, it might help bring others out of their bad day!
4. It’s OK to fail- Lessons
It is ok to fail! Failure helps us learn from our mistakes. Ask yourself, how can I do better next time. What can I do to get to where I want to be?? Do not think of failure. Think of new ways you can try to change the situation next time. Find humor in your mistakes! Recruit others around you who are doing what you want successfully and get their insight. Always remember, if we did not fail, there would be no lessons to learn.
5. Transform the negative self talk into positive self-talk!
Have you caught yourself saying things such as, I can’t do it, I never do anything right, I am not the one for this job, I am so stupid, why is everyone else better than me? When you talk like this, you will start to believe this is true and you may not accomplish much. Instead of the negative self-talk, ask yourself, How can I do this, what can I do next time, what are others doing that I could try, I can not do this yet but I will try. This simple way of positive thinking will help you on the track to a happier and healthier mindset!
6. Be in the present
Focusing on the present moment can help you develop a more positive mindset. This very second is different than 5 minutes ago when someone speed past you and cut you off. Is it still worth dwelling over? No! Why waste precious time and energy staying in the negative for so long. Something may happen that you might not like in one moment. Breath, let it go! Breath in the positive thoughts and out the negative. Being in the present moment has helped me feel more grounded and happier. Look around, breath in the fresh air, look at the trees, do something that releases negativity.
7. Surround yourself with positive people
This one is easy, right? Unfortunately not always. We do not always get to pick who we work with, who are a family is or even who is providing some sort of customer service. Can you change some of this? Yes! There is no reason to surround yourself with negative people. They can whine and stomp around with their negativity but feel empowered to let them know you are done hearing it! You become who you surround yourself with so pick wisely. Surrounding yourself with positive mentors and people can only benefit your life and a positive mindset.
